The Internet is seen as a natural, comfortable and quick form of communication throughout the world today and the Taxi Industry is in a prime position to take advantage of all the benefits of this facility to create an enhanced customer service and therefore extra loyal business due to this technology already being installed and available at most major depots - it is a simple extension.

In 1990, there was a small Taxi company in Hobart that provided vehicles for the executive/limousine market. This was Nick's first introduction to other forms of communication besides a radio room – all vehicles had a car [mobile] phone.

Clients could by-pass any delays that can be experienced trying to find a taxi through the normal channels .

Clients came to expect this level of service and often requested trusted contacts when travelling to other locations around Australia because there was no other way of guaranteeing the reliability.

Nick went to TAFE (school) part-time to learn all that he could about the Internet and Microsoft Office programs.

He found a wealth of contacts on ‘Ozcabs’ – a Taxi Industry Email discussion forum - on the Internet.

Through ‘Ozcabs’ Nick was able to communicate with Richard Quilty, the CEO of Taxi 131 008 limited.

Taxi 131 008 is recognised as the leading taxi [phone] booking service in Australia.

Their website was very basic. Nick knew that he could enhance their presentation on the internet and informed Richard.

They met in Hobart in December 2001, shook hands, and a ‘new-look' website was launched at one minute past midnight 2002.

This 'Gentlemen's' agreement still stand today - the fundamental principal for any business... to honour one's word.

In 2006, Richard and Nick looked at providing an Online Booking Service as the next step in providing a service to 131 008 Members and their clients. Their website www.131008.com has grown into a National online booking service that the public expect when seeking a Taxi Service - anywhere Australia.

Note: Richard & Nick have not seen each other since 2001. Richard retired this year (2008).

Fact: The Internet is the first place people look > for information or a service provider.
